Final post of AS media - Sum up

Over this past year in media, I have learnt so much. I have learnt to manage my time, organisation and research. I have also learnt so much about the industries in media, a lot about camera angles and the important of Mise en scene. I look forward to another year of developing and expanding on my knowledge of the media. Thanks for reading my blog,

EVALUATION 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of this product?

I have learnt so much about technologies through the process of creating our product.
As my role as editor a lot of the technology was the software on the apple macs. For example, using IMovie when creating the anamatic for our production, which was really good to use for very simple editing.

 I was already somewhat familiar with IMovie, but this year I learnt a lot more from editing in the software Premiere pro CS4. This software was difficult to use at first but the more I used it the easier it became. And so I used premiere pro to edit all of our opening sequence. I learned how to add simple and somewhat complex titles, eg for our ident.

I also learnt how to add in diegetic and non-diegetic sound into the video for example the plugging in of the amps and the song at the end when the titles appeared.

I also used this sight, Blogger, to upload my work. It acted as a digital diary to show my progression of research and planning. I used presentational device on here such as slide share and prezzi for fun and different ways of sharing my work. I also used the sight Pinterest to create  mood board, at the beginning of research to help come up with ideas for our production. It was also more helpful than a paper mood board as I could keep adding to it.

And finally I used YouTube and site Art of the title to research opening sequences of British independent films so we could gain ideas for post production, when editing, so we could get the right feel of the genre. I also used YouTube to upload our final product.

EVALUATION 4

Powered by emaze

We would also use social media to get a variety of different opinions on our opening sequence, via sites such as Facebook. We would gain feedback to change the things that they would feel need changing to further improve our work, to make it appeal to our audience as much as possible.

First Full cut

Here is the first full cut of our opening sequence, so now we can show it to our teachers and audiences to see if there are any changes that need to be made.

Editing titles

As I was the editor for our group, it was very important for me to get the titles just right. Here is how I created the titles we thought would be great for our text;

First I had to select where I would want to have the title and stop it in the right place. And then I'd click the bar at the top,
And then new title, then default still.
Then it would pop with this.
Then I would pick out the font we picked out earlier for our titles.
And then click anywhere and write out the title.
And then when i'd finised typing and chose the right size to go with the shot the if I clicked the arrow at the top left I would be able to move the text around and place it in a good place for the shot.

Before & after shots of cast

Here are the before and after shots of the cast, to see how different their characters costumes are compared to their real life clothes;

before

After

This shows how we put time into carefully choosing a costume for each character to represent who they are as a character. eg Blaise is meant to be very cool so we made sure his costume was very cool for the 1950s.

Day of filming Band

The other day we finished filming the remaining parts of our production. After school we all headed to the location we chose to film. As the rest of the cast went inside to get ready, Tom, Liv and I finished filming the closing shots of Blaise.

Then when we had done that we went inside and set up the props to film all the band shots.

And then preceded to film;

After a while it started to get dark, which gave us an issue for lighting, but it still turned out alright.

Overall it was a great afternoon of filming.

Secondary audience feed back of rough cut

We showed our class and our teacher our rough cut, and they gave us some valuable feedback. They said:
"When Blaise is cycling the titles overlap him, maybe you could add an effect to fix that?"
"You could add some grading"
"Add some effects with the titles"
"The sound on the monologue is a bit harsh, maybe soften it a bit."

This feed back was very useful for us and we will take this feedback into account on our work.

primary audience feed back of rough cut

We showed a small group of people in our class and our teacher our rough cut, and they gave us some valuable feedback. They said:

"It starts in a bit quick - maybe in fades?"
"maybe make the bike a bit faster"

We didn't get a lot of feed back as it was a small group, however still useful. Will will take this feedback into account on our work.

Ident first cut

Here is the first cut of our ident.
We felt that it matched the genre of our film, simple yet affective, it did not require too much editing.

Day of filming Blaise

On Saturday morning Tom and I set out to Gittisham to do the first part of filming (unfortunately because of personal issues Liv was unable to join us)

First we picked up Blaise and made sure he was dressed appropriately - Jeans, white t-shirt, brogues, jacket, 50's sun glasses. And then began to film;

We had to set up appropriate equipment when necessary

Tom setting up steady cam

 Then to film particular shots, Tom and I had to sit in the back of a very very slow moving car to film Blaise cycling along.

 And then we filmed various shots of Blaise cycling through Gittisham.

We took some risky shots...

And whilst Tom and I were setting up Blaise used his initiative to try and stay warm.

Overall it was a great day of filming.
