Ident first cut

Here is the first cut of our ident.
We felt that it matched the genre of our film, simple yet affective, it did not require too much editing.

Day of filming Blaise

On Saturday morning Tom and I set out to Gittisham to do the first part of filming (unfortunately because of personal issues Liv was unable to join us)

First we picked up Blaise and made sure he was dressed appropriately - Jeans, white t-shirt, brogues, jacket, 50's sun glasses. And then began to film;

We had to set up appropriate equipment when necessary

 Then to film particular shots, Tom and I had to sit in the back of a very very slow moving car to film Blaise cycling along.

 And then we filmed various shots of Blaise cycling through Gittisham.

We took some risky shots...

And whilst Tom and I were setting up Blaise used his initiative to try and stay warm.

Overall it was a great day of filming.

ident planning

Here are some sketches of an ident idea we had. this will be helpful for when we come to create our ident so we know what we want it to look like;

Plan for the first day of filming.

we created this plan so we could figure out what we needed and when we needed it on the day of filming.

schedule for the day of filming

We planned out what we had to do point by point for the day of filming, so when it came to the day we would know exactly what to do.

Fonts

Today in class we got given a book with vintage fonts for some ideas for titles, which would be perfect for our 50's/60's setting;

Costumes

Here are some sketches we did in class of what we hoped our characters would look like. We had to design costumes set for that era (1950's) so we did plenty of research, and then for each character we made sure they had an individual style, but still set in the 1950's. eg Blaise's glasses and James' leather Jacket.

Titles

We made our film shoud be called "Head In The Sky" - a quote taken from our lead role's monologue.It really sums up the main character in one sentence and his outlook on life.

The other day Tom and I were doing some research on some fonts and we found one that we really liked for our titles. here are some screenshots of the font. We experimented with the colours of it and put a background behind it just to get an idea of what it might look like.

Audience

There are two types of film audiences; Qualitative and Quantitative

Quantitative Where the audience number is very large, and mostly attracted to films like Hollywood blockbusters, mostly created for the millions of dollars/pounds it will make. Such as many superhero movies and remakes or sequels to well known films such as 'Jurassic world' or 'Star Wars' - and so these films have such a massive audience.

Qualitative This however is a much smaller audience, films for people who appreciate the plot and the details in a film a lot more. They tend to be film that don't cost a lot to produce and they are genuinely films that not the everyday person has heard of - Independent or Arthouse cinema appear to have a qualitative audience. Films such as 'Submarine' or 'Nowhere boy', which are the films we got ideas from for our opening sequence. So I think our film would be more or a qualitative film, as it is an independent film set for a small specific audience.

Distribution companies

Distribution companies are responsible for marketing of a film and the distribution of films to cinemas. Well know examples of distribution film companies are Paramount, Universal and 20th century fox.

However, as ours is an independent film, it would probably use a Distribution companies like Film4, and it is popular for independent British dramas, like ours would be. (They distributed Submarine)

Anamatic

My anamatic is helpful for when it come to editing  I can refer to it to know how long the shots are.
